Corrales
Old San Ysidro ChurchEvents
Promoting the distinct character of Corrales through music, artwork, history and local merchants, the Corrales Harvest Festival is a Fall tradition.
History
Ancestors of present-day Native Americans dwelled in the fertile Corrales Valley as far back as 500 A.D. In 1712, Captain Juan Gonzales purchased the land grant to the area. Gonzales constructed an irrigation ditch in 1720, helping to create a community of farmers and ranchers. The numerous corrals built to contain the farm animals gave “Corrales” its name. The Village was incorporated in 1971, and today is home to a wide variety of people who share the common interest to preserve Corrales’ quiet rural lifestyle.
Casa San YsidroCulture
Casa San Ysidro provides visitors with a look back into life in a 19th Century Spanish Hacienda. The Old San Ysidro Church is a great example of 18th-19th Century New Mexico church architecture. Built in 1868 from pieces of a previous church destroyed in a flood, it is currently used as a cultural center for music, art, lectures and other community events.
